SCOPE OF CARE
Where to Go for Routine and Specialist Pediatric Care
Monarch is urgent care, not pediatric primary care. Some things belong with your child's pediatrician or a specialist. We tell you which:
Routine well-child visits, growth checks, developmental milestones → Your child's pediatrician. We do not manage ongoing pediatric primary care.
Pediatric immunization series (DTaP, MMR, Varicella, Hep B, etc.) → Your child's pediatrician. Routine childhood vaccinations belong with the doctor managing your child's growth and development.
Behavioral, developmental, mental health concerns → Your child's pediatrician for screening and referral to the right specialist.
Chronic specialty care (recurrent ENT, cardiology, allergy testing, asthma management, neurology, GI) → Pediatric specialist. We can suggest the right type of specialist if you are not sure.
True emergencies → 911 or the nearest emergency room. See the urgent-care-vs-ER section below for specific triggers.

Reading Your Child Carefully
Pediatric urgent care is unforgiving. Symptoms in kids look different than in adults, change faster, and need to be read in context. A rash that looks like nothing in the morning can matter by bedtime. An ear infection that responds to one antibiotic resists another. A cough with no other signs can be perfectly normal — or pneumonia.
That is the reading our team does on every pediatric visit. A Monarch physician examines your child, listens to what you have noticed at home, and explains the plan in plain words. If we need an X-ray, we have one. If we need a strep test, we have one. If your child needs more than urgent care, we tell you that, refer to the right specialist, and send the records along.
The hardest part of pediatric urgent care is not the medicine. It is being honest with parents — when something is fine, when something is not, and what to do next. We try to do that here.

Your Child's Visit in 4 Steps
Walk In or Check In Online
Walk in during open hours, or use MyChart online check-in when available. Bring your photo ID, your child's insurance card if applicable, and a list of medications and allergies.
Friendly Check-In
Our front desk team checks you in quickly. We try to keep wait times short for families with sick or hurt children.
Physician Examines Your Child
A Monarch physician listens to your concerns, examines your child, and explains the next steps in plain language. Rapid testing and X-ray are available when needed.
Treatment & Follow-Up
Leave with a care plan, prescriptions when needed, and school or daycare documentation when appropriate. We explain follow-up and when to seek urgent help. Records can often be shared with your child's pediatrician through MyChart and Care Everywhere.
URGENT CARE OR ER?
When to Bring Your Child to Monarch vs the ER
Walk In for Non-Emergency Care
A Monarch physician can evaluate common illnesses and minor injuries when your child is alert, breathing comfortably, and has no emergency warning signs.
- Ear pain, sore throat, cough, or congestion
- Fever in children older than 3 months without emergency warning signs
- Mild vomiting or diarrhea while your child can drink and is urinating normally
- Mild rashes, hives, or bug bites without breathing trouble or face or throat swelling
- Cuts with controlled bleeding that may need stitches
- Suspected sprains or minor fractures
- Pink eye or small, minor burns
- Sports physicals and school or daycare documentation
Get Emergency Help
Call 911 now for:
- Difficulty breathing, ribs pulling inward with breaths, or blue or gray lips or skin
- Collapse, unresponsiveness, or difficulty waking your child
- A seizure
- A serious head, neck, or spine injury, or heavy bleeding that will not stop
- A severe allergic reaction with tongue or throat swelling or breathing difficulty
Go to the ER promptly for:
- Signs of significant dehydration, such as very little urine, a dry mouth, or no tears
- Repeated vomiting with inability to keep fluids down
- Fever above 104°F that is not controlled by fever-reducing medicine
Call 911 if your child becomes hard to wake, collapses, or has trouble breathing. Monarch does not provide IV fluids. Seek emergency care for any other severe or rapidly worsening symptoms.
Babies 3 Months Old or Younger
A rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher needs immediate medical attention. Call your pediatrician right away, even if your baby otherwise seems well. If you cannot reach them promptly, go to the ER.
Possible Poisoning or Overdose?
Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 immediately for instructions. Do not wait for symptoms. Call 911 now if your child collapses, has a seizure, has trouble breathing, or cannot be awakened.

All Ages, No Cutoffs
Newborns through teenagers. Some walk-in settings have pediatric age limits. Monarch is set up to evaluate kids of all ages when urgent care is the right level of care.
Physician on Every Visit
A Monarch physician examines your child, decides what is needed, and explains the plan in language parents can use.
On-Site Pediatric X-Ray
Digital X-ray is available for children when clinically appropriate, with same-visit physician review and radiologist final read included.
Stitches, Splints, Tests
Laceration repair, splinting, rapid strep, flu, COVID, and RSV testing — available in the same visit when needed.
When a clinic limits its scope, families sometimes get sent down the road mid-visit. We try to handle what we can in one stop, then send records to your child's primary care doctor through MyChart when possible.

Self-Pay Pricing
Self-pay rates start at $105.70 for an established patient low-level visit and $153.30 for a new patient low-level visit. Our self-pay pricing already includes a 30% discount from standard rates — no separate step needed. HSA and FSA accepted. Pricing is reviewed with you before treatment begins.

Pediatric Urgent Care FAQ
What ages do you see?
We welcome children of all ages, from newborns through teenagers, for concerns appropriate for urgent care. Every child is evaluated by a Monarch physician.
For babies 3 months old or younger: A rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher needs immediate medical attention. Call your pediatrician right away, even if your baby otherwise seems well. If you cannot reach them promptly, go to the ER.
Do I need an appointment for my child?
No appointment is needed. Walk in Monday–Friday, 8am–6pm, or Saturday–Sunday, 9am–12pm. You can also use MyChart online check-in when available.
How long does rapid flu testing take?
Our on-site rapid flu tests provide results in about 15 minutes when your physician recommends testing. That estimate covers processing the test; your total visit also includes check-in, the physician evaluation, and any additional care. Other tests may take longer. Can you write a note for school or daycare?
Yes. Ask during your visit about school, daycare, or sports documentation, and bring any required forms. Your physician provides documentation when appropriate and explains when your child can return based on the illness or injury.
Do you have X-ray for kids?
Yes. On-site digital X-ray is available for children when recommended after a physician exam. A radiologic technologist takes the images, and your physician reviews them with you during the visit. A radiologist's final interpretation may follow. Visit our walk-in X-ray page for details.
Can you do stitches on children?
Yes. We offer laceration repair for children, including stitches, staples, or wound glue when appropriate. Your physician evaluates the cut and your child's needs to decide whether it can be repaired here or needs emergency or specialist care.
My child keeps getting ear infections. Can you help?
Yes. A Monarch physician can evaluate current ear pain or a suspected infection and recommend treatment. For recurring problems, we also discuss follow-up with your child's pediatrician or an ear, nose, and throat specialist.
What pediatric services can you handle in one visit?
Physician evaluation, rapid testing, digital X-ray, splinting, and many minor wound repairs are available at our Carmel clinic when needed. Your child receives an assessment and care plan, with referral when a specialist or hospital is the appropriate next step.
Do you accept insurance, and what does self-pay cost?
We accept Anthem BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Encore/IU Health Plans. We are not in network with Medicaid or Humana. Coverage and your share of the cost depend on your plan.
Simple self-pay visits start at $105.70 for established patients and $153.30 for new patients. These rates already include our 30% self-pay discount. Visit complexity, testing, imaging, or procedures can add to the cost. HSA and FSA payments are accepted. See our full self-pay pricing.
