SCOPE OF CARE

Where to Go for Routine and Specialist Pediatric Care

Monarch is urgent care, not pediatric primary care. Some things belong with your child's pediatrician or a specialist. We tell you which:

Routine well-child visits, growth checks, developmental milestones → Your child's pediatrician. We do not manage ongoing pediatric primary care.

Pediatric immunization series (DTaP, MMR, Varicella, Hep B, etc.) → Your child's pediatrician. Routine childhood vaccinations belong with the doctor managing your child's growth and development.

Behavioral, developmental, mental health concerns → Your child's pediatrician for screening and referral to the right specialist.

Chronic specialty care (recurrent ENT, cardiology, allergy testing, asthma management, neurology, GI) → Pediatric specialist. We can suggest the right type of specialist if you are not sure.

True emergencies → 911 or the nearest emergency room. See the urgent-care-vs-ER section below for specific triggers.

If you are not sure whether Monarch is the right place for what your child needs, call us at (317) 804-4203 first. We will help you decide before you make the trip.

FROM DR. CLAY

Reading Your Child Carefully

Pediatric urgent care is unforgiving. Symptoms in kids look different than in adults, change faster, and need to be read in context. A rash that looks like nothing in the morning can matter by bedtime. An ear infection that responds to one antibiotic resists another. A cough with no other signs can be perfectly normal — or pneumonia.

That is the reading our team does on every pediatric visit. A Monarch physician examines your child, listens to what you have noticed at home, and explains the plan in plain words. If we need an X-ray, we have one. If we need a strep test, we have one. If your child needs more than urgent care, we tell you that, refer to the right specialist, and send the records along.

The hardest part of pediatric urgent care is not the medicine. It is being honest with parents — when something is fine, when something is not, and what to do next. We try to do that here.

WHY PARENTS COME TO MONARCH

What Pediatric Urgent Care at Monarch Looks Like

Pediatric urgent care looks different in different settings. Here is what we handle at Monarch in one stop when urgent care is the right level of care:

All Ages, No Cutoffs

Newborns through teenagers. Some walk-in settings have pediatric age limits. Monarch is set up to evaluate kids of all ages when urgent care is the right level of care.

Physician on Every Visit

A Monarch physician examines your child, decides what is needed, and explains the plan in language parents can use.

On-Site Pediatric X-Ray

Digital X-ray is available for children when clinically appropriate, with same-visit physician review and radiologist final read included.

Stitches, Splints, Tests

Laceration repair, splinting, rapid strep, flu, COVID, and RSV testing — available in the same visit when needed.

When a clinic limits its scope, families sometimes get sent down the road mid-visit. We try to handle what we can in one stop, then send records to your child's primary care doctor through MyChart when possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pediatric Urgent Care FAQ

What ages do you see?

We see children of all ages, from newborns through teenagers. A Monarch physician examines your child and decides what is needed. There are no age restrictions for pediatric care at Monarch.

Do I need an appointment for my child?

No. Walk in during open hours: Monday–Friday 8am–6pm, Saturday–Sunday 9am–12pm. You can also schedule online through MyChart to hold a time slot.

Can you write a note for school or daycare?

Yes. School clearance letters, daycare return-to-care notes, and sports clearance documentation are usually completed during the visit. Some clearances require resolution of symptoms or completion of antibiotics before return — we will explain timing during your visit.

Do you have X-ray for kids?

Yes. We have on-site digital X-ray for kids of all ages. A Monarch physician examines your child and orders imaging when appropriate. The X-ray is taken by a radiologic technologist, reviewed with you during the visit, and sent for radiologist final read. See our walk-in X-ray page for details.

Can you do stitches on children?

Yes. A Monarch physician performs laceration repair on children using sutures, staples, or wound glue depending on the wound. We use age-appropriate techniques to keep your child as comfortable as possible during the procedure.

My child keeps getting ear infections. Can you help?

Yes. Recurring ear infections are one of the most common pediatric concerns we see. A Monarch physician examines your child, evaluates whether the infection appears bacterial or viral, and discusses whether referral to an ENT specialist is appropriate. For the current infection, we treat during the visit when antibiotics are indicated.

What pediatric services can you handle in one visit?

We see children of all ages with no minimum age cutoff. We have on-site digital X-ray. A Monarch physician examines, diagnoses, and treats during the same visit, with procedures like laceration repair, splinting, and rapid testing available in-office. When a clinic limits its scope, it can route families elsewhere mid-visit. We try to handle what we can in one stop.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in network with Anthem BCBS, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Encore/IU Health Plans. We are NOT in network with Medicaid or Humana. Self-pay rates start at $105.70 for an established patient low-level visit — our self-pay pricing already includes a 30% discount from standard rates, no separate step needed. HSA and FSA accepted.
