At Monarch Medicine, a physician examines the rash’s distribution, pattern, color, texture, and associated symptoms to determine whether it is allergic, infectious, inflammatory, or something that needs further testing or dermatology referral.
Treatment depends on the cause. Your physician reviews what you have already tried, recommends appropriate treatment, and explains what to watch for as your skin heals. If the rash does not improve as expected, follow-up evaluation helps determine the next step.

When to See a Doctor for a Rash
Visit Monarch Medicine for a new, worsening, or uncomfortable rash, including:

A Monarch physician recommends treatment based on the cause, which may include antihistamines, topical medication, antibiotics for bacterial infections, or antivirals for shingles. Complex cases may need dermatology referral.

Prescriptions sent to your pharmacy before you leave. A Monarch physician provides specific skin care instructions and a follow-up plan if the rash doesn’t improve.

Can urgent care treat a rash?
Yes. A Monarch physician evaluates and treats allergic reactions, contact dermatitis, skin infections, bug bites, shingles, and many other skin conditions.
Should I go to urgent care or a dermatologist for a rash?
Urgent care can evaluate a new or worsening rash and start treatment when appropriate. Persistent, recurring, or complex skin conditions may need dermatology follow-up. Call 911 for difficulty breathing or swallowing, throat or tongue swelling, or fainting during a suspected allergic reaction.
Can you treat poison ivy?
Yes. A Monarch physician evaluates poison ivy and poison oak reactions and recommends treatment based on the location and severity. This may include topical or oral steroids when appropriate, along with recommendations for itch relief and skin care.
I found a tick on me. Should I come in?
Remove the tick promptly. Contact us promptly to ask whether preventive antibiotics are appropriate; for certain high-risk bites, prevention is considered within 72 hours after tick removal. Your physician reviews where the bite occurred, the tick, attachment history, and whether the medication is appropriate for you. If you develop an expanding rash, fever, joint pain, or other symptoms after a tick bite, come in for evaluation and treatment rather than waiting.
How do I know if my rash is an infection?
Increasing warmth, swelling, pain, drainage, or spreading skin discoloration can indicate infection. Seek prompt evaluation, especially if you also have a fever. A physician determines whether antibiotics or another treatment are needed.
Can you treat shingles?
Yes. Come in promptly if you suspect shingles. A Monarch physician evaluates the rash and determines whether antiviral medication and pain treatment are appropriate. Seek immediate medical evaluation if the rash involves your eye or you develop vision changes.
Do you accept insurance for rash visits?
Yes. We accept most major insurance plans including Anthem, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Cigna. We are not in network with Medicaid or Humana. We also offer affordable self-pay pricing.
